New Tasting Room opening September 2019 in Ithaca, NY

We are very excited to be opening up the South Hill Cider tasting room this fall and are looking for staff to help us launch the new space! We can train you on all things cider, but experience with farming, food, beverage or retail is necessary. We are a small family business that makes ciders from fruit that we grow and from other local orchards that we work with.   • Being highly dependable and with reliable transportation as we are four miles outside of downtown Ithaca.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt and multitask as situations arise.

  • Some experience in farming, food, beverage or retail industries, is necessary.

  • Able to lift 40 lbs repeatedly

Positions & Responsibilities

+ Tasting Room Manager

Help oversee the daily and continual operation of the tasting room including training staff, acting as the point person during service and daily administrative duties, scheduling and payroll.

Be highly organized in maintaining schedules, inventory, ordering from local purveyors etc.

Maintain up-to-date POS system, menus and website.

Oversee food preparation.

Help oversee physical upkeep of bar and retail areas- stocking, cleaning, organizing etc.

Organize and coordinate on-site and off-site events.

+ Tasting Room Guide

Greet customers, guide tastings, serve glass pours and maintain the retail area

Engage with guests and expertly field questions about cider, our story, our products, our orchard, the region (will train).

Conduct multiple tastings at a time, as well as pour flights and cider by the glass.

Gain proficiency and accuracy in cloud-based POS systems

Take food orders and do light food prep- - cutting and assembling cheese boards, assembling and grilling sandwiches.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas of bar and tasting room.

Tidy and restock retail area- must be able to lift 40lbs repeatedly.

Closing responsibilities include: breaking down sandwich cooler, cleaning all food, bar and tasting room tables surfaces, washing and restocking glassware, sweeping & mopping.

Wash, polish and stock glassware throughout service.

Prepare food orders and deliver to tables.

Bus inside and outside of tasting room throughout service.

Stock cider in back coolers and retail area, changing kegs as necessary.

+ Host

Great all customers as they arrive and navigate to bar, tasting tables or waiting areas.

Maintain wait list as necessary.

Maintain organized flow of people to bar and tasting tables, being able to give reasonably accurate wait times.

Field questions from customers about our ciders, our orchard and the region.

Take phone calls.

Help maintain and tidy retail area as needed.
