Sophie is a Boston-based musician who draws inspiration from old time fiddling, percussive dance, and jazz improvisation. Her childhood in Staunton, VA was steeped in community music and dance traditions. Contra dances, choirs, music festivals and camps shaped her curiosity and inspired her to pursue music professionally. Improvisation is at the heart of her relationship with sound and space, and she uses these different musical elements to engage the listener - and the music - in a conversation.
